House Beautiful...almost

When December/January 2011 arrived in the mailbox announcing big ideas for decorating in 2011 I couldn't wait to flip through the pages...It was NOT AT ALL what I expected. I couldn't put it down. Even Newll Turner, Editor in Chief, makes reference to the difference in fads and trends. Well, I feel pretty good about things right now...remember last week when I mentioned my burlap book covering??
Well, I took it a little further...and made some window panels for the dining/pub room.
Three yards of burlap ($5.99/yd) and exsisting hardware. What does HB show? Check out page 112. Every window in Roman Alonso's LA apartment is covered in burlap!

This was soooo easy...no sewing. The hardest part is cleaning up all the 'burlap dust'.
There are also several photos this month in both HB and Veranda magazine showing antlers and mounts. These candle holders were gifts from the very talented Bob Pickle. We are looking forward to enjoying them at Thanksgiving, Christmas and always.
I am personally happy to see this trend of using pure and simple objects---inside and outside!

  1. I just read the Dec/Jan issue of HB last night (a little late, thanks to the holidays!), and I admired Alonso's burlapped windows. Then I stumbled across your blog for the first time this morning and saw your burlap window treatments (much nicer, actually!). I have also been a contributing writer for St. Louis Homes and Lifestyles, and I've enjoyed reading your articles there; now I will be sure to follow your blog. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and inspirations, and best wishes for 2011!
